Autumn glory

LAKE OF THE CLOUDS, PORCUPINE MOUNTAINS WILDERNESS STATE PARK, MICHIGAN, OCTOBER 4, 2008

This spot is probably the most photographed in all the western reaches of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I took the picture a week before the autumn colors reached their peak, and boosted their saturation a bit with Photoshop Elements while reducing the luminance of the blue to make the sky darker.

This is gorgeous - so jealous you get those lovely autumn colours - we don't in Auckland. I don't think it gets cold enough.

How high is hte lake?

Cheers

Lake of the Clouds is 1074 feet above sea level, about 474 feet above the current level of Lake Superior. I don't think the altitude has anything to do with the autumn colors -- the cold nights in Upper Michigan probably do. The colors are much more vivid than those farther south in the Midwest.
